Creative people of the Gowanda area, here is an assignment: Search garage and estate sales, search through attics and closets to discover unique articles for your scarecrow! Let your imagination run wild!

     Last year, the scarecrows were declared the best in Western New York - and probably were the best in New York State! This year, the scarecrows are destined to be even greater!

     Reserve Saturday, Sept. 18. Four sets of judges have been assigned to each of the following categories: Residential, Business and School/Organizations. A Best of Show sign will be presented to the most creative block or area. Please note, a most creative block or area could also contain a winning scarecrow.

     Cash prizes will be awarded to the first, second and third prize winners in each category. These will be presented during Jon Wilder’s concert, which will begin at 6 p.m. Saturday evening in front of the Hollywood Theater.

     Applications for the scarecrow contest are available at the Gowanda Area Chamber of Commerce, Hager’s, Jubilee, the Gowanda PennySaver/News office and the Gowanda Village Hall.
