Gowanda Recreation news...

The Gowanda Summer Recreation Program had several highlights during their final week to bring an end to the six-week session.

On Monday, a talent show that featured music (instrumental and vocal), gymnastics, and stand-up comedy took center stage at the GCS auditorium. Seven-time World’s Strongest Man Don Reinhoudt gave a motivational speech and demonstrated feats of strength during his presentation on Tuesday. Wednesday welcomed Cornell Cooperative Extension that put on their fifth program of the summer. Thursday was the swimming showcase followed by the awards assembly.

The final day saw three busloads of children visit Darien Lake to climax a spectacular summer.

Although the summer recreation program is over for another year, a “Kids Carnival” will be held at St. John Park on Saturday, Aug. 21 from noon to 4 p.m. for children 14 and under. In case of rain, the event will be held the next day at the same time.

Admission is $5 per child with all proceeds going to fund future recreational activities. The first 100 children registered will also receive a complimentary gift package.

If anyone is interested in volunteering to run a game or would like to donate merchandise for the gift packages, please call Mark Benton at 532-4053.
