Cemetery book near completionHelp wanted - It has been a long process but the printing date is within sight. The Cattaraugus County Genealogical Society is verifying information gathered from the reading of tomb stones in Wildwood Cemetery. Members noticed that some stones are badly weathered or there are plots without stones. This is why they need your help. Even though there will be a sexton’s section, the 1950s Daughters of the American Revolution listing, and a miscellaneous information section, CCGS would like to do as complete a cemetery listing as possible. If you know where a man, woman, or child is buried in an unmarked grave or with an illegible stone, contact the society. Mailing address is CCGS, POB 404, Salamanca, NY 14779; e-mail address is ccgs404@yahoo.com; or telephone evenings 716-938-6319. During the summer months, CCGS does field work. Currently, the Cadiz Cemetery in Franklinville is being read. The DAR 1950s listings shelved at the Cattaraugus County Museum is used as the beginning of updates. Copies of all materials originated and purchased by CCGS are at the museum and the Salamanca Public Library. Programs will begin with the regular meeting after Labor Day. September’s program will be on Murder Hill, Ellicottville, while October’s topic will be on dating old photographs. All meetings are open to the public, begin at 7 p.m. and are held in the conference room of the Salamanca Public Library.
