Summer recreation begins
July 6 in Gowanda
The Village of Gowanda will begin their summer recreation program on Tuesday, July 6. The program will be held at the Gowanda Middle School Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. through Aug. 13. All children Pre-K (mornings only) through grade 12 are eligible to attend. Parents and guardians are asked to drop off and pick up their children at the middle school parking lot by entering from Panther Drive. The outdoor activities will be set up near the climbing wall and adjacent playing fields. A free breakfast and lunch program will be available each day to all participants.
Week one will feature a Pedometer Program (count your steps) at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 7, followed by a concert featuring the Glenn Colton Band at 1 p.m. On Friday, July 9, a trip to the Gowanda Library for a movie and popcorn will be the featured event of the day.
Beginning Monday, July 12 through Friday, July 16, a free basketball camp from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. for boys ages 8 to 14 will be conducted by certified basketball coaches in the middle school gymnasium. Anyone interested in participating in this event or any playground event must be registered. Forms can be obtained at the village office or at the playground site beginning July 7.
Additional activities this year will include an expanded talent show and music program, nature walks, weight training, “kids” carnival, arts and crafts, tournaments, field-day competition, a trip to Darien Lake, tennis instruction, a full swimming program, 3-on-3 basketball league, floor hockey, softball games, awards day, special guests including the seven-time “World’s Strongest Man” Don Reinhoudt, Jr., and a sleepover at the Gowanda Moose.
