Allegheny River Indian Dancers to perform

The Allegheny River Indian Dancers, featuring Bill Crouse, will be performing at Chang-Hu Park in Gowanda on Saturday, July 31 at 2 p.m.

The Allegheny River Indian Dancers have been performing at various events over the past several years. The group has been a favorite at many Powwows, Native American festivals and cultural events in the United States and Canada.

Many museums, universities and elementary schools have used them to present Native American songs and dances.

The group specializes in Iroquois Social Dance Presentations. These are the dances from the Northeastern Woodland tribes of the Iroquois. One of the highlights of their program is the “Smoke Dance.”

The group is also well-known for their repertoire of Intertribal “Powwow”-style dances. This presentation features the hoop dance done by Bill Crouse. This dance involves 30 wooden hoops used to make various formations or designs representing things from nature.

Performances are appropriate for all general audiences and range from 45-60 minutes in length. Group sizes range from three performers to a larger group of 12 performers. Gowanda Free Library is hosting the event and tickets are available at the library and at Gowanda PennySaver/News. tickets for adults are $1 and children 14 and under are 50 cents.
