Play structure updateThe Village of Gowanda Recreation Commission, through the leadership of former recreation commissioner John Dedloff, has been busily fund-raising for the new play structure to be built in St. John Park. On April 2, they held a Cops and Kids Basketball Tournament at the Gowanda High School. As they did last year, the cops won the game. The game was emceed by Joe Borzellere and Karen Cobo’s rendition of the National Anthem was superb. During the event, many of the spectators enjoyed J’s Pizza, pop and other refreshments. There was a Chinese Auction with items graciously donated by local merchants, a 50/50 raffle, and a foul shot chance for the kids. Thanks to Lee Schmittendorf, the referee for the game, the high school, all of the players, cheerleaders, volunteers and all who attended for a fun-filled night. Tons of fun was had by all at the Gowanda Moose Club on April 8 thanks to Bill Grange, who donated the facilities for the Spring Fling Dance, A special thanks to caterers Mark and Janet Rivent. Everyone had a fantastic time dancing and moving to the music provided by Bill Peglowski, who donated his time and talent for the evening. The kids really had a great time. The Frito Lay fund-raiser proved to be a huge success and the Recreation Commission would like to thank all the students for their hard work and determination. Commission members would also like to remind everyone that the Recreation Commission will be having a car wash and bake sale at Wal-mart in Springville on May 8 with proceeds going toward the new play structure.
