Garden Club news...The Gowanda Garden Club featured a colorful “spring” and Easter theme at their April meeting. Ken Lawton, a plantsman from Turnbull Nurseries and Garden Center in North Collins, gave an interesting and informative presentation on spring planting of “bareroot” shrubs and trees. Lawton, who brought along a good-sized “bareroot” peach tree, flowering quince bush, and grapevines, said buying “bareroot” is less expensive, and easier to plant than “balled and burlapped.” The May meeting will be held Thursday, May 6, at 7:30 p.m. at the Gowanda Free Methodist Church in conjunction with the Fredonia Garden Club.
