GFD needs more dugouts

The Gowanda Volunteer Fire Department needs more garages or outbuildings to rent for dugouts during the Firemen’s Convention on Aug. 4, 5, 6, 7 in Gowanda. Vacant buildings can also be used.

The garages do not have to be completely cleaned out, but roomy enough for the firemen to have some tables and coolers inside. There should be electric service in the garage or nearby and a water source outside of the house.

The homeowner will be paid the following: 1 car - $100, 1-1/2 car - $150, 2 car - $200, and 2-1/2 car or larger - $250 for use of their building for the four days of the convention.

The visiting firefighters cooperate with the owner well and they are all fully insured through their fire departments. They also are required to keep their area clean while they are here and before they leave at the close of the convention.

For more, information, or if you can help the firefighters out, please call Gordon Ackler at 532-9463 anytime, or Mary Struchen at 532-0635.
