Cynthia Constantine to receive award

On April 17, Phoenix Lodge F&AM will be presenting Cynthia Constantine with the DeWitt Clinton Award. This award recognizes outstanding voluntary community service by a non-Mason or non-Masonic organization. It is awarded to those whose actions show a shared concern for the well-being of mankind.

The award is named for a very dedicated and devoted Mason, DeWitt Clinton. Son of a Revolutionary war patriot, Clinton was a legislator, senator, mayor of New York City, and later governor of New York. He was instrumental in establishing the foundation of the public education system and extremely instrumental in the building of the Erie Canal. As a Mason, Clinton was the Grand Master of New York for 14 consecutive terms (1806 to 1820).

Cynthia Constantine exemplifies Clinton’s dedication and hard work.

A former teacher, Constantine is deeply involved with many of the events and projects that take place in the Gowanda community, from the Heritage Fall Festival to the Harley Happening; she is involved with just about every aspect of these events. She is there for the planning and running of the event to the cleaning up afterwards.

There will be a dinner at 6:30 p.m. and the award ceremony at 7:30 p.m. The dinner and award presentation will be held at Gowanda’s Masonic Temple located on South Water Street (next door to the Olympia). The cost will be $10 per person and is payable at the door.

Please RSVP by April 10. Contact Aaron Markham at 532-9238 for reservations.
