Marjorie Waterman, daughter of Paul and Edythe Waterman of Collins, will be receiving her Bachelor of Science degree with High Distinction in cellular and developmental biology from the University of Rochester on May 16. Since her degree requirements were completed in December, Waterman decided to take the spring semester of her senior year to work in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. She is devoting this semester to learning more about patients and patient care because she will be attending medical school at the University of Rochester in the fall. While a medical student, she will continue doing research in how gene expression is affected in people/animals with age-related hearing loss. Since high school, Waterman has pursued her education with the focus being medical school. She was a teaching assistant for Advanced Molecular Cell Biology as well as for Organic Chemistry. She received her EMT-B license in the summer of her sophomore year and has volunteered countless hours in the pediatric inpatient unit at Strong Memorial Hospital. She has been employed for four years in the office of Ruth A. Lawrence, MD, a pediatrician at Strong Memorial Hospital, and began working in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit this past July. Waterman also attended the Association for Research in Otolaryngology’s Mid-Winter Meeting in Daytona Beach, Florida in February, where she presented a poster on her findings from her last research endeavor.
