Benefits planned for Town of Collins manOn Feb. 20, a propane explosion rocked the peaceful Woodside Road area of the Town of Collins. The resulting fire destroyed the Woodside Septic Company, the home of Martin Jasinski and sent the 26-year-old to the Burn Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Erie County Medical Center, where he spent one week recovering from second- and third-degree burns he suffered as a result of the explosion/fire. Jasinski has been released from the hospital, but is receiving ongoing medical attention. Jasinski literally lost everything but the clothes on his back. At the hospital, attending doctors and nurses were forced to cut his shirt away from his body, leaving him with a pair of jeans as his only possession. With no insurance to cover the loss of his home and no medical insurance, Jasinski faces a bleak financial future. Neighbors, friends and strangers from area communities have gathered to assist Jasinski and two benefits have been planned to assist in defraying medical costs. The first benefit, sponsored by Kathy Schmitz, proprietor of the Pit Stop Restaurant, and Independent Avon Representative Linda Munro, will be held at the Pit Stop Restaurant in Collins Center on Saturday, March 27 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. For any size donation, patrons can receive a mini facial, hand massage, foot massage, and/or a make-over. Gift baskets, Easter gifts and Chinese auction items will also be available. For more information, please call 532-4315. The second benefit, a jamboree sponsored by the community and family of Martin Jasinski, will be held on April 4 (Marty’s 27th birthday) at the Mortons Corners Fire Hall from 1 to 8 p.m. Pop and snacks are included in the $20 donation. A Chinese auction, food and beer will also be available. For more information or to purchase advance tickets, please call 532-9483.
