Seventh grade student wins essay contest

By David Kehr

I have four dreams for America. The first is food for the hungry. My second dream is education for everyone. Peace is my third dream. My last dream for America is equal job opportunities.

The first dream I'm going to talk about is food for the hungry. There are some places where they have people donate canned goods like the Salvation Army. Schools, businesses, and individual people are able to donate. Other people see advertisements on TV to donate. Unfortunately, most people waste food without even thinking about the people in need. Even if they only donate one can, it makes a difference. I think there should be a certain day or month that everyone donates canned goods or other non-perishable foods.

My second dream is education for all. Poor people on the streets should have an education because if they want a job they need to be qualified. Also, people need to be educated to survive in life. A person has to have an education to do almost anything in the world. Also, education improves life skills.

My third dream for America is peace. I think there should be peace because in wars people die. If the governments tried to work out their differences in a non-violent way, that could lead to peace in the world. People need to find better ways to resolve their differences besides fighting and killing each other. I think the world would be a much better place for everyone if we were all at peace.

My fourth and final dream is equal job opportunities for everyone. I think if everyone had equal job opportunities, there would be fewer poor people in the world. Also, more people would have money to buy food, clothes, and education for their children. If more people had job opportunities, there would be businesses making more food, clothing, and more schools for children whose parents can't afford it.

My four dreams, food for the hungry, equal job opportunities, peace, and education for all, would improve the world. I hope some of my dreams come true so the world will be a better place.
