Healthy eating is key
Kids and Broccoli - The two CAN go together when it's part of the Fit & Fun "Healthy Choices Sticker Program."
The program is one of several activities conducted by the Healthy Community Alliance under Gowanda Central School's grant from the New York State Department of Health Governor's Initiative for Children With Diabetes.
Third- and fourth-grade students at GES recently participated in the three-week program, collecting stickers each time they chose the healthy food of the day, which could be a fruit or vegetable (including broccoli). Students who packed lunches also received stickers if their lunches contained a fruit or vegetable.
At the end of the three weeks, students were able to redeem their stickers for prizes. The goal of the sticker program is to teach young people about the benefits of good nutrition.
