Concert set for Collins LibraryMusic in the Library: A Concert Series will feature a concert by "Joyful Noise" on Saturday, Jan. 17 at 7 p.m. The concert will take place in the main library room of the Town of Collins Public Library, located at 2341 Main Street (Route 39) in Collins. "Joyful Noise" is a folk/gospel quartet that hails from Western New York. Toby, Alex and Kristin are sisters, and Ronna is their cousin. Originally they all came from Dayton. Their extended family spent a great deal of time singing together, in the car on trips, around the campfire, at the church and in school. Their music consists of folk and gospel selections, with a strong emphasis on harmony, sung either acapella or with an acoustic guitar for accompaniment. Their simple, down-to-earth style is inspired by many hours spent 1istening to and learning from parents who, as children of the Great Depression, had learned early the value of music as a wonderful form of inexpensive family entertainrnent. For the past two and a half years they have performed throughout Western New York at churches, nursing homes, weddings, birthday parties, memorial services and reunions. "Joyful Noise" recently completed work on their second CD, a selection of folk songs, which will be available soon. Their first CD, "In the Garden," is a collection of gospel songs, and is available now on CD or cassette. The Friends of the Collins Public Library sponsor the music in the Music in the Library series. Concerts are held once a month from September through April. All concerts are free and open to the public, although free will offerings are gratefully accepted. For more information, call the Collins Public Library at 716-532-5129.
