VCR Committee activities update

     At the Oct. 28 Village of Gowanda Board meeting, a report was submitted to apprise the board of the latest activities of the Village Center Reinvestment (VCR) Committee. A synopsis of the committee's Oct. 20 meeting follows.

     The primary purpose of the meeting was to begin detailed hardware selections/specifications in preparation for approvals and quoting.

     General design specifications were agreed for:
Lighting: single luminaire design, banner and attachments, fluted pole design, options (including pulse start; power outlets, 250 wattage, except two in front of Persia Town Hall will be double luminaire 175 watts each bulb;
Benches: six-foot powder-coated metal;
Receptacle: powder-coated metal with insert, side empty with locks;
Planters: round, coated metal with galvanized insert, two sizes;
Bike rack: simple pole with two-sided attachment, coated metal;
Street signs: four-way cast aluminum - Victorian; and
Bulletin board: 31-inch by 46-inch display area.

     The following still require more work:
Kiosk design specifications; Kiosk artwork specifics; and specific quantities and locations for the benches.

     It was decided to address the town clock project after approvals and cost figures were established for benches and receptacles.

     It was reported that Jack Torrance and Mike Hutchinson met with Peter von Scheidt of Wendel Duchscherer Architects & Engineers, P.C. to have them submit a price for developing the lighting specifications.

     Jack Torrance reported on his meeting with Verdin Company to review town clock location, specifications, requirements and general costs. The Town of Angelica has just completed a fund-raiser for installation of their town clock. A picture was shown of the clock installation. A separate fund-raising effort was discussed for this portion of the overall project.

     It was reported that the information requested of the Hollywood that is needed to evaluate their request for VCR funds had not been received as yet.

     The Circuit Rider stated the need to identify specific locations for each of the lights, benches, receptacles, planters, etc. on a detailed map so that she could begin the paperwork preparation process for the project.

     The next meeting of the VCR Committee is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. in the village hall on Nov. 10.
