Music in the Park 2003

The final concert in the Friday night series of Music in the Park 2003 will be presented by one of Gowanda's all-time favorite musical groups, 23 Skidoo. The concert will be held at 7 p.m. at Chang-Hu Park and promises to close out the series with a program of favorite tunes from America's great swing era.

Founded in 1985 under the leadership of Dick O'Dell, the group's common goal was to preserve and promote the music from the roaring '20s through the 1940s. The band will present a trip down memory lane with a repertoire that features popular big band favorites, sing-a-longs, novelty numbers and Dixie.

Combining the ever-popular rhythms of the banjo and tuba, with trumpet, clarinet and trombone, to create the excitement and flavor of their unique style, they swing to the oldies with a Bourbon Street flavor.

The concert series is coordinated by the Gowanda Area Chamber of Commerce with funds provided by the Villages of Gowanda and Perrysburg and the Towns of Dayton, Collins and Persia; the Gowanda Kiwanis club and the Cattaraugus County Council for the Arts.

In case of rain, the performance will move into the First United Methodist Church on North Chapel Street.

This concert concludes the Friday night summer Music in the Park series for 2003 - but there's more!

On Sunday, Aug. 24 at 2 p.m. concert-goers will be entertained by Kokomo Time and on Sunday, Sept. 21, John Wilder will present a concert at 4 p.m. to close the first annual Heritage Harvest Festival featuring the Gowanda Area Home and Garden Tour.
