Aug. 8 concert singers squeeze out national careerPerhaps you've seen them (or their sign) around the village as with brushes and buckets in hand they wash windows for various Gowanda area residents. Squeegees by day, microphones by night, Dave and Elaine Yuen are a talented pair. They have not one, but two careers. They run a window cleaning business based in Dunkirk that employs five people and also sing professionally as the Dave Yuen Show. They will be performing for Music in the Park on Friday, Aug. 8 at 7 p.m. Dave is a Canadian-born musician who gained recognition as an entertainer in the mid 1960s. He has toured major cities of Canada and the United States. Elaine, a former first grade teacher at the Aldrich Street School in Gowanda, joined him in performing and until the late 1970s they spent their lives on the road. They have many major events in their credits including the Bob Hope Golf Classic in California. They will entertain residents in Chang-Hu Park with jazz classics, big band and swing using the musical arrangements of Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett and Nat "King" Cole, to name but a few. If you spend your winters in Florida, you can find them in the Naples area from October to February. Music in the Park is sponsored by funds provided by the Villages of Gowanda, Perrysburg and Dayton and the Towns of Collins and Perrysburg; the Gowanda Kiwanis Club and the Cattaraugus County Council for the Arts. It is suggested that concert-goers bring lawn chairs and refreshments if desired. In case of rain, the concerts will be held in the First United Methodist Church on North Chapel Street.
