Art on Display - Doris Calnen: Watercolors will be on exhibit at Springville Center for the Arts through Aug.16. Gallery hours are from noon to 5 p.m. Tuesday to Friday; 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. Calnen, of South Dayton, began painting in watercolors just two and a half years ago. She had early training in her native New England through classes at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston and at the University of New Hampshire. She also studied commercial art and for many years ran a variety press out of her rural Cattaraugus County home. Calnen finds inspiration in the countryside and in her gardens for paintings of flowers, still lifes, landscapes and farm animals. She is a member of the Collins Art Club and won Best of Show at the L.K Painter Fine Arts Fest. An artist's reception will be held at Springville Center for the Arts on Wednesday, Aug. 6, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome.
