Girl Scouts receive awards

On June 14, the Gowanda Girl Scouts hosted their annual Court of Awards at the Gowanda Moose Club. Ten troops received the badges and pins they had earned this year. Daisy through Senior Scouts sang "Summer Fun" songs for their parents and invited guests.

The culmination of the hard work of a Junior Girl Scout is the Bronze Award. Four girls received Gowanda's first Bronze Awards. They are Hannah Alt, Hallie Draegert, Jessica Kelly and Katie Oger. For their project, they helped SABAH in Buffalo with a variety of activities.

Marilyn Duda, senior Girl Scout, received Girl Scout's highest award, the Gold Award. Her project included creating games and a storage area for North Haven Therapeutic Riding & Aquatic Center. Marilyn will be attending Houghton College in the fall and would like to become a veterinarian.

Gowanda's Scouting in Summer Program began June 28 with "The Great Family Bike Marathon." Other activities include a trip to DQ to learn about ice cream cake making, swimming, arts and crafts and a family picnic. By attending three activities, the girls receive a patch.
